Audiophile with Kyle Hall (Detroit) – 8th October

Kyle Hall - October 8th

After kicking things off in 2007, Nottingham promotors Audiophile continue their impressive bookings here at Spanky Van Dykes, with Detriot’s Kyle Hall on October 8th. The 18-year-old wunderkind has been actively involved in Detroit’s house music scene since age 11. He launched himself onto the UK scene with his remix of Darkstar’s “Aidys Girl Is A Computer” and has gained support from the likes of Theo Parrish and Mike Huckaby.
With forthcoming releases on Hyperdub, Warp, and Hypercolour, it is clear that Hall is not simply a Detroit hometown hero, but an internationally renowned star in the making.

Comanechi
Pure Divorced
Sleaford Mods

It’s a match made in HELL!!! This September COMANECHI, London’s sludgiest, trashiest punk duo and DIVORCE, Glasgow’s thunderous five-headed noise-abusers, are sharing space on vinyl and on stage!! Also, Nottingham’s one-man hate-spitter, think John Cooper Clarke, Whitehouse and Pitman. Oddness.

Field Day

This years Field Day left the rain as a distant memory as the sun held out for a glorious event with a magnificent line-up. Electronic mayhem saw Mount Kimbie fill out the Bloggers Delight tent with a rush of experimental dubstep and head boppers. Gilles Peterson introduced Chicago hip hop/jazz collective the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, tailor made for sunset with chilled vibes reaching across the park . Caribou were uplifting, positive and ballsy and unsurprisingly drew a considerable crowd, all eager to catch the psychedelic pop-electronica. The highly anticipated Gold Panda proved a popular draw and Matthew Herbert entertained the crowd, mixing discordant sounds whilst mounting a silver step ladder and finishing his set inside a tent. The juddering techno of Moderat echoed an awe-inspiring headline set that leaves Field Day 2010 as a memorable one. Its just finding that there is not enough time to fit it all in, especially having to wait for so long for a beer. Field Day is an evolution of improvement as we pursue the best new music, sound and visual entertainment and this years proved that all the hard work does pay off.

These Are Powers

THESE ARE POWERS “CANDYMAN” from KNOWMORE on Vimeo.

Chicago/Brooklyn based art-punk trio These Are Powers first album was a pummelling, post-hardcore, New York hellscape, with dirty production not far off Oneida and early Sonic Youth. They’re performing alongside Hype Williams and New Weird Nottingham Soundsystem on July 30th, here at Spanky Van Dykes. Check out the video for “Candyman” above.

Found this record label ‘Luaka Pop’. Has a really intriguing website. They seem to specialize in Brazillian pop, cuban classics, rock and african soul.
